The Ajuntament de Lleida is added to the events commemorating the United Nations Day with a series of actions, which started today with the raising of the flag of the international organization in the Pati de la Paeria, and at the same time collaborating with other entities such as the celebration of the round table, which will take place next Tuesday at the University of Lleida.

This morning, the deputy mayor and councilor for Education, Cooperation, Civil Rights and Feminism, Sandra Castro, accompanied by councilor Joan Ramon Castro and the representative of the Association for the United Nations in Lleida, Eimys Ortiz, has presided over the act of placing the UNU flag, which will remain in the courtyard of the Consistorial Palace until Monday, October 25.

Ahead of Sunday, from 8 in the evening until midnight, the bridges and the facade of La Paeria will be lit up in blue, matching this action with October 24, the date the Charter of the United Nations came into force, an ephemeris that year after year is dedicated to publicizing the actions carried out by the UN in the different countries of the world, opening a space for deliberations and expositions on the aims of the organization, as well as for the debate on the big problems such as world peace.

In this line, on Tuesday, October 26, at 12 noon and in online format, the round table "The United Nations facing the humanitarian crisis arising from the conflict in Afghanistan", which will be in charge of María José Cervell Hortal and Isabel Lirola Delgado, professors of Public International Law and International Relations.

The events commemorating the day are part of the public awareness campaign in which the different City Councils are invited to celebrate the anniversary of the United Nations by waving the flag and placing a panel with information about the international organization.

At this moment two fundamental events are commemorated, on the one hand the work in favor of peace, which the United Nations has carried out for more than 70 years, and which is a mission in which we must all collaborate and, secondly, the importance of municipalities, cities and towns, in the realization of human rights and peace at all levels.
